Sanae Takaichi, a Japanese politician belonging to the country’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), achieved a historic milestone by being elected as the first female prime minister of Japan. Takaichi, who received 237 votes in the Japanese parliament’s Lower House, succeeded Shigeru Ishiba in the position. Takaichi’s new role marks a transformation in Japanese politics, carving a path for women in the field. She is serving as the 104th prime minister of Japan and will focus on various matters, including improving Japan’s economy, during her tenure. Takaichi became part of the LDP in 1996 and has served in various capacities during her career, including as Japan’s minister for internal affairs and economic security minister.
