After a ban of almost four years, India has restarted its export of wheat, allowing the country to cater to international buyers. Severe heat impacted wheat production and reduced wheat supplies in India, resulting in a ban on the commodity’s export in 2022, which continued in the following years too. This move aimed at preventing a shortage of wheat within the country. However, an improvement in wheat production due to good weather conditions has enabled exports to recommence. However, according to experts, as the price of Indian wheat is higher than that of competitors globally, India’s exports are likely to be limited.
