- A landmark trade deal called the EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in New Delhi during a high-profile event to celebrate India’s Republic Day.
- The European Union (a group of 27 European countries) and India will now work more closely by trading goods with each other.
- As a result, many products will now be cheaper and easier to buy as taxes have been relaxed and fewer rules will apply.
- The deal will make India and Europe stronger partners with less dependence on other countries for trade.
