Using information from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, scientists identified 13 potential regions near the lunar south pole where the upcoming Artemis III mission could land. Scientists have chosen these sites based on lighting conditions, landscape, the ability to communicate with Earth and the ability to accommodate a safe landing.
Scheduled to take place in 2025, the Artemis III mission will be the first Artemis mission that will send crew to the surface of the moon. Artemis III will remain on the moon’s surface for 6.5 days.
Did You Know?
We always see the same side of the moon from Earth because the duration of the moon’s rotation on its axis is equal to the time it takes to revolve around the Earth.
