A study by researchers at Pennsylvania State University in the USA has found a link between basic body movements, such as walking and breathing, and brain health. The study shows that these simple activities cause the abdominal muscles to contract, which in turn leads to pressure changes that move the brain—a movement considered healthy. This movement enhances the flow of a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid throughout the brain and helps remove waste products, helping the brain function more efficiently. The study underscores the importance of exercise and physical movement for a healthy brain.
