Using information from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the Chandra X-ray Observatory, astronomers have found an astronomical object with properties like those of little red dots (LRDs), but with one significant difference. LRDs are astronomical objects that are reddish in colour and are located nearly 12 billion light-years from Earth. According to several astronomers, these objects are supermassive black holes blanketed by gases so thick that light, such as X-rays, cannot pass through. However, the newly found astronomical object, named the ‘X-ray dot’, emits X-rays, making it different from other LRDs. Studying this unique object will help astronomers learn more about LRDs and black holes.

The JWST is equipped with a five-layer strong sunshield, which safeguards it from the heat of the sun.
