Researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia, have found an innovative technique to eliminate viruses from surfaces. They have created an acrylic film featuring nanopillars, tiny structures that resemble pillars. These nanopillars, located very close to each other, destroy the viruses that come in contact with them by ripping the viruses’ outer layer apart. This effectively kills the viruses and stops their replication, preventing the transmission of diseases. These acrylic films are more flexible than similar innovations in the past and can be applied to different surfaces, preventing infections from spreading.
