To help students develop self-confidence, the Rajasthan education department has introduced an initiative called ‘Sarthak Naam Abhiyan’ that seeks to replace student names that are inappropriate or unusual with better alternatives, protecting students from shaming, teasing and bullying. Through this initiative, schools in Rajasthan will reach out to parents and acquire their permission before implementing the name change. The initiative will allow parents to pick a new, respectful name from a list comprising about 3,000 names, created by the education department.
