There are numerous possibilities to recycle plastic. Just using recycled waste plastic instead of buying new plastic is the easiest way to recycle. But we can apply the 3 R’s. Some examples are as follows:
- Reuse plastic bottles and containers.
- Use old plastic to make everyday things like handheld fans and other devices.
- Use old plastic containers to store stationery for schools.
- Reuse old plastic to make tables and chairs for schools and offices; this also reduces the use of wood.
- Make recycling bins to collect more recyclable waste plastic.
Sanskriti Bagrecha, a class 5 student from Hutchings High School, Pune says:
- Plastic bottles can be recycled to make terrariums.
- Plastic spoons can be made into wall hangings.
- Plastic containers can be used to make pencil/ pen holders.
- Plastic bottle caps can be used to make toys.
- Plastic jars can be painted and used as home décor.

- We can reuse plastic containers for storing crayons, erasers and sharpeners.
- We can reuse plastic bottles to make water sprinklers.
- We can reuse plastic bottles to make a piggy bank.
- We can make a door-hanging décor by recycling plastic bottle caps.
- We can reuse plastic bottles to make bottle planters.
