- The Lepidoptera order consists of moths and butterflies, which play an important role in the ecosystem as they serve as prey for other creatures. Additionally, they aid in pollination.
- The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) has prepared the catalogue, providing valuable taxonomic data on the species across its 22 volumes.
- The catalogue was prepared over a period of 12 years and involved intensive research work, including gathering information from museums and site studies.
