Knowledge-building Through Newspapers

• To encourage education through newspapers, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has directed schools throughout the state to make newspaper reading part of the morning assembly each day.
• This effort involves a reading session for not less than 10 minutes in which students read significant news pieces. Students will be equipped with newspapers through the libraries in their school.
• This initiative has been mandated in all basic primary and secondary schools in UP, helping students stay informed of current happenings, develop an interest in reading and also bolster their linguistic capabilities.
• The Rajasthan government has also mandated a similar initiative in the state’s government schools.
