India’s maritime technology is set to receive a boost with the inauguration of an autonomous maritime shipbuilding and systems centre in Andhra Pradesh.

  • India’s maritime technology is set to receive a boost with the inauguration of an autonomous maritime shipbuilding and systems centre in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed project is set to be established at Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Nellore.
  • The facility, the first of its kind in the world, will create cutting-edge systems such as autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), advanced navigation technologies and unmanned surface vessels (USVs). Apart from building advanced vessels, the facility will also facilitate vessel testing.
  • Deploying technologies like 3D printing and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in manufacturing will make production efficient.
  • The project is expected to improve defense, fishing and other maritime activities.
