- A survey carried out at Kerala’s Karimpuzha Wildlife Sanctuary in January has unveiled a variety of new species, establishing the zone as an ecological treasure trove.
- The survey, undertaken by Kerala’s forest department together with environmental groups, has provided crucial data on the fauna of the sanctuary, which spans 227.21 sq kms.
- Researchers recorded 177 butterfly species, also studying the migration behaviour of some species. Furthermore, 42 odonata species, 171 bird species and numerous fish and spider species were documented.
- The survey also included many species never recorded in the sanctuary before.
