- Uttarakhand is set to get two new ropeways, which are expected to make travel to remote pilgrimage spots in the region more convenient. A ropeway project from Sonprayag to Kedarnath and another from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji received approval from the Union Cabinet in March.
- The projects, costing ₹6,811 crore, are expected to reduce the travel time to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib Ji significantly. The ropeways will ease pilgrim travel, replacing strenuous journeys on foot, ponies or palanquins.
- The Sonprayag to Kedarnath and Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji projects will stretch 12.9kms and 12.4kms in length, respectively.
- This initiative will also ease the journey of tourists visiting Uttarakhand’s Valley of Flowers.
