- Researchers recently found that humans inhabited Gujarat’s Kachchh around 5,000 years prior to the Harappans.
- The study, undertaken by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, in partnership with researchers from other organisations, shed light on the adaptive ability of the early inhabitants.
- Researchers believe these ancient people fed on species with shells such as oysters. They were hunter-gatherers and inhabited mangrove areas.
- Researchers found piles of shells in Khadir and neighbouring islands. They initially believed these piles, called middens, were a natural feature and overlooked them. However, they are now believed to be remnants of the inhabitants’ activities.
