- In an effort to enhance governance in the union territory of Ladakh, its area has been divided into seven districts.
- Initially, Ladakh comprised the districts of Kargil and Leh. Now, five new districts have been added, namely Drass, Zanskar, Sham, Nubra and Changthang.
- Vinai Kumar Saxena, the lieutenant governor of Ladakh, announced this change on the social media platform X. According to Saxena, the initiative received approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2024.
- This step is expected to ease the delivery of services to people and open up new opportunities for growth, employment and entrepreneurship.
