Archaeologists have gained new insights into the engineering of an ancient artificial island discovered in Loch Bhorgastail in Scotland. They initially believed that these types of islands, known as crannogs, were mostly from the Iron Age. However, researchers from the University of Reading and the University of Southampton in UK gained more information about the crannog using advanced imaging techniques. Apart from the stone forming the upper portion of the structure, they found layers of brushwood and wood underneath. Additionally, they found Neolithic pottery remains in the area. These findings suggest that the structure was constructed around 5,000 years ago during the Neolithic period.
