A 67-million-year-old dinosaur fossil fetched a whopping $50.1 million at an auction, creating history as the most expensive dinosaur fossil in the world. Nicknamed Gus, the Tyrannosaurus rex (T. rex) fossil was sold at Sotheby’s, an auction house in New York, USA, in July. The huge specimen is among the most complete dinosaur specimens found and has drawn interest for several of its well-preserved parts. Among the fossil’s most impressive features is its wishbone, a type of bone that breaks very easily and thus is not often found. The 38ft-long fossil broke the auction record set by Apex, a Stegosaurus that fetched around $45 million in 2024.
