I eat dal, rotis and cereals as part of my main meals. I am also particular about the quantity of ready-to-eat food and snacks I consume. My mother often cooks fancy food items such as burrito rice, always keeping it nutritious. She innovates with food, incorporating nutritious ingredients instead of less nutritious ones. For example, she prepares momos using cabbage leaves instead of maida. In case I’ve eaten too much fast food, I balance it out by eating homemade food like khichdi. As for physical activity, I engage in a lot of running games with my friends. Cycling, swimming and getting enough sleep also keep me energised. I think being mindful of our health from a young age will help us make better choices as adults.

Children should take care of their health as a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. They should take care of their diet by avoiding excess oil and sugar and engaging in physical activity daily. This will not only keep them physically fit, but also improve their mental health. My diet consists of healthy and homemade food, so there is no place for junk food. I also pursue hobbies such as table tennis and swimming to keep fit. My school plays an important role in ensuring students stay healthy, by including a ‘fruits break’. I eat two fruits during this break every day. We also have yoga classes, which help us balance our mental and physical health.

Rather than strictly limiting sugar or fast food, I make sure not to consume them excessively. Being aware of what I consume and ensuring I don’t overeat helps me enjoy everything responsibly. My diet includes food that is rich in carbohydrates and proteins, for energy and growth. For vitamins and minerals, I eat fruits and try different juices. I also drink seven to eight glasses of water to stay hydrated. I play games such as basketball at school. Additionally, I go for walks to enjoy fresh air and play with friends. I often pace around my house to organise my thoughts. Taking care of our health as children helps us develop habits that feel natural as adults.

Staying fit by playing sports, running, drinking adequate water and maintaining a healthy diet is very important. Being active and eating healthy make me feel good every day.

Teaching children about the nutritional content, such as the amount of iron or calcium, in each food helps them make healthier choices. Nutritious food builds immunity, strengthens bones and muscles and enhances cognitive functioning. Bananas, a superfood, are both affordable and packed with essential nutrients. They should be incorporated into a child’s diet. Along with nutrition, physical activity helps children maintain a healthy weight, develop discipline and build confidence, which they carry into adulthood. It decreases the risk of heart problems, strokes and high cholesterol later in life. Additionally, it shifts their focus from screen time, enhancing their mental health. Young children can engage in yoga, while children in class 6 and above can participate in competitive games. Keeping sports competitive and recognising students’ achievements encourages participation.
