The Perfect Children’s Day Gift

India celebrates Children’s Day annually on November 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister. Pandit Nehru loved children and championed their well-being. He believed that children play a significant role in shaping the country’s future. SCARLETT RODRIGUES asked a few RobinAgers what Children’s Day gift they would like from their parents and the Indian government. Here’s what they had to say.

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: A big family adventure at an amusement park, where I can ride all the rollercoasters and eat tonnes of cotton candy!
  • From the Indian Government: More holidays, like a Fun Day just for playing, a Super Adventure Day and a Candy Day. This would help us de-stress and have fun!

Radhya Jalan
Class 5, La Martiniere for Girls, Kolkata

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: A holiday with our puppy, Chase. I learn a lot by travelling and Chase needs to see new people and places and learn new things.
  • From the Indian Government: More efforts to raise awareness about childhood depression. Numerous children and teenagers suffer from major depression and many struggle in silence, unnoticed. As the saying goes, ‘Sometimes the smallest hearts carry the heaviest burdens.’ We need a support programme to help parents, teachers and students understand and help children suffering from depression.

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: New stationery. There’s something about colourful pens, fresh notebooks and other unique stationery that makes me happy and brings out my creativity.
  • From the Indian Government: It needs to try to boost the electronics industry. I have a fondness for gadgets such as laptops, phones and watches.

Genelle Serrao

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: I wish to explore new places together as a family, making unforgettable memories along the way.
  • From the Indian Government: It needs to ensure that every child has access to quality education and healthcare. This will enable them to pursue their dreams and live healthier, happier lives.

Reyan Gupta
Class 7, The International School Bangalore, Bengaluru

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: More family time, which will distract me from harmful gadgets.
  • From the Indian Government: Better traffic management, which will allow me to reach home earlier after school and wake up later in the morning.

Medhavi Swaroop
Class 7, Sancta Maria International School, Hyderabad

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: More books to read and to add to my class library, which I started a few months back. The library aims to encourage children to collaborate while reading. This will give every student in my class a chance to enjoy and cherish books like I do.
  • From the Indian Government: Parks in all neighbourhoods for children to play in as this also allows us to make new friends with other children from different cultures, schools and communities. This will help us learn about each other and stay active, which will help us grow into better individuals. It will also help nurture every child mentally and physically.

Swadha Avantsa
Class 7, Tatva Global School, Hyderabad

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From All Parents: More love, time and moral values, which will enhance every child’s personality and mould them into responsible citizens. Every child needs these gifts. They help in creating long-lasting bonds between children and parents.
  • From the Indian Government: Fundamental necessities for children. The government should provide every child in India with education regardless of their economic status. The government should also work towards creating clean and sanitary conditions for all children. This will ensure that all the children in India will have mile wide smiles on their faces!

Aditi Purandare
Class 10, Sinhgad Spring Dale School, Pune

The Perfect Children’s Day Gift
  • From Parents: Their blessings, as this will always help me work to the best of my abilities and practice the life lessons they have taught me since childhood.
  • From the Indian Government: Provide children with free knowledge. The government should enhance the education sector in the country. Free education should be provided to children till class 10. Additionally, resources such as free books and uniforms should be given to children.
