Aairish Mohanta, Class 10, Delhi Public School, Durgapur, West Bengal
Every home has its rhythm, but ours operates on a dynamic mix of meticulous discipline, intellectual debates that last three working days and an unspoken agreement that having only one child was undeniably the right call. We are a tight-knit trio living in our cozy apartment, navigating daily life with just enough drama to keep things entertaining.
The Cleanliness Dictator (With Love)
Leading the home command centre is my mother. She holds the fort around the clock and treats dust as a personal affront. If there were a national leaderboard for spotless surfaces, our home would take the gold. The only true turbulence in our daily paradise occurs when I commit a minor household infraction and enter the splash zone of her legendary scolding sessions. You learn quickly to nod, look suitably contrite and make sure not a single cushion is placed out of alignment.
The Weekend Strategist
Then there is my father. As a state government officer, his weekdays are spent out on duty, which means our mornings start with a ritual FaceTime call to sync up before the world wakes up. But Friday evening is the golden hour—he arrives home and balance is restored.
The Academic Balancing Act
Then there’s me—a class 10 student balancing thick textbooks, endless notes, creative diaries and the general feat of surviving secondary school. Rounding out the extended cast is my favourite elder cousin, who lives too far away for my liking.
