A senior diplomat, Vikram Doraiswami, has been appointed as India’s ambassador to China, succeeding Pradeep Kumar Rawat in the position. Doraiswami has rich diplomatic experience, having served in various posts, including Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan and High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. Before being appointed to his new role, Doraiswami served as the high commissioner of India to the United Kingdom (UK). Doraiswami’s experience also includes serving at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN) in New York, USA, and working as a private secretary to Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, India’s former prime ministers. His knowledge of Mandarin and his experience at the Indian Embassy in Beijing in the past are expected to enable him to carry out his duties effectively. In his new position, Doraiswami is expected to strengthen the relationship between China and India, especially following Line of Actual Control (LAC) tensions.
