An engineer of Indian origin named Vibhav Altekar has drawn attention for a company called Saronic Technologies, which he co-founded. The company, which is headquartered in Texas, USA, develops autonomous surface vessels with advanced features, strengthening maritime defence. The US Navy employed Corsair, a drone boat developed by the company, to carry out a challenging rescue operation near the Strait of Hormuz. The boat, measuring 24ft in length, managed to rescue a pilot and co-pilot after an Apache helicopter was brought down during the US-Israel-Iran war, marking the first occasion in which an autonomous surface vehicle was employed by the military for such a rescue. Altekar, who is an alumnus of the University of California, USA, also serves as Saronic Technologies’ chief technology officer (CTO).
