TEACHERSʼ DAY, celebrated annually on September 5, honours the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an inspirational educationist and philosopher. This day celebrates the contributions of teachers in shaping students’ personalities and building a strong society. Teachers impart knowledge, counsel students and help them discover their strengths. Students admire their teachers and often wonder what it would be like to lead a class. To mark Teachers’ Day, SCARLETT RODRIGUES asked a few RobinAgers what they would teach their teachers if given a chance to swap roles. Here’s what they had to say.
Aairah Nathani
Class 6, St Thomas Central School, Thiruvananthapuram
If I were a teacher for a day and my teachers were students, I would teach them in a fun and interactive way, connecting the classroom to the real world. I would also teach them to use more technology and would make learning engaging with more activities. Finally, I would teach them to listen to every student, which would help them understand students better and be considerate of their feelings.
Kayaan Vora
Class 6, The Somaiya School, Mumbai
If I could switch roles with my teachers, I would teach them how to have fun and not be so serious all the time. Simple things in life, such as playing in the garden and sharing lunch, bring happiness and smiles. If I were teaching my teachers school subjects, I would try and discourage rote learning and conduct all my classes using practical and fun-filled methods.
Rohan Dulla
Class 6, Epistemo Vikas Leadership School, Hyderabad
Reversing roles with my teachers would be strange but also amusing. It would be strange to see my teachers on the other side of the classroom while I stood facing the class near the whiteboard. I would like to teach my teachers science and also share some of my origami skills with them. I would ensure that I conduct classes in a fun way and encourage my pupils to work in pairs. I would also organise a quiz at the end of class. I would teach them the basics of playing the guitar and conduct a quick, fun activity, asking them to identify and play different guitar strings. I’m sure swapping roles with teachers would help me understand the challenges teachers face while teaching. Teachers put in great effort to keep children interested in their subjects and explain concepts clearly. Additionally, switching roles would help teachers understand students’ perspectives better.
Pouravi Sithara
Class 4, National Public School, Bengaluru
I admire and salute all my teachers. If I got to swap roles with my teachers, a subject I would love to teach them is science. Science is among my favourite subjects and I particularly enjoy biology. I would be happy to teach my teachers various topics, including the digestive system. I would engage with them just as they engage with us and make learning informative and interactive.
Pranavi Dulla
Class 4, Epistemo Vikas Leadership School, Hyderabad
I would ensure that the school day had a mix of free periods, breaks, interactive activities and sports. I would also like to buy my teachers’ lunch. I would encourage activities such as dancing and singing to make the schedule less monotonous. I would host a session that allows teachers to talk about anything they like, such as their favourite animal. I am learning to crochet and would like to teach my teachers to crochet. I am good at skating and would enjoy giving them skating lessons too.
Dhruv Sankar
Class 2, Global Indian International School, Hyderabad
I think playing sports helps us become mentally and physically healthy. It also makes us fast, alert and strong. So, I would teach my teachers about the importance of sports. Participating in sports makes us mentally sharp by enabling us to think faster. It also gives us the confidence to participate in competitions and allows us to learn from failures with the right spirit. Through sports, we learn team spirit and how to support and encourage each other.
