Squadron Leader Saanya Becomes First Woman to Earn IAF’s Top Instructor Rank

Squadron Leader Saanya has broken new ground by obtaining the category-A (Cat-A) Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) qualification, the highest rank in the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) flying training system.

Squadron Leader Saanya has broken new ground by obtaining the category-A (Cat-A) Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) qualification, the highest rank in the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) flying training system. She is the first female officer to have acquired this qualification in the IAF. This qualification reflects a pilot’s extensive skills, competence and capability to instruct other pilots. With this, Saanya will be able to train young pilots for a challenging career in military aviation. Apart from sharpening trainees’ flying skills, her role will involve mentoring them and helping build mental resilience. She will also monitor the performance of young pilots and guide them to improve. Her achievement underscores women’s proficiency and competence in defence and other fields.
