- In order to reflect the cultural and historical significance of different places in Mumbai, the Government of Maharashtra has decided to rename eight of its railway stations in Mumbai, which currently have British-era names.
- According to the proposal, which has to be approved by the Centre, Sandhurst Road, Marine Lines, King’s Circle and Cotton Green will be renamed as Dongri, Mumbadevi, Tirthankar Parshvanath and Kala Chowky, respectively.
- Mumbai Central is set to be renamed after Nana Jagannath Shankar Seth, a well-known social reformer and philanthropist. The proposed name Mazgaon for Dockyard Road is derived from the Marathi words ‘mazha’ and ‘gaon’, which translates to ‘my village’, highlighting the place’s history.
- Charni Road will be renamed as Girgaon and Currey Road will be renamed as Lalbaug, based on the proposal.
