Esteemed Indian photographer Raghu Rai passed away on April 26 at the age of 83. Rai was renowned for his unique photography, especially his black and white images, which gained acclaim in India and internationally. Rai’s career in photography commenced in the 1960s. He captured pictures of people, animals, ordinary moments and historic events, bringing stories to life as a photojournalist. Among his most notable works is his photography of the Bhopal gas disaster in 1984. Rai also captured many famous personalities, including Mother Teresa, Bismillah Khan and Indira Gandhi. He was recognised with several honours, including the Padma Shri and the Officier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government for his remarkable work.
