To ensure that physical activity is given as much importance as academic knowledge, the High Court (HC) of Kerala has ordered the Kerala state government to form guidelines that specify the extent of playground required for different school categories and other features necessary in playground facilities. As per the HC order, strict action will be taken against schools across Kerala that do not comply with the guidelines, including the shutting down of educational establishments. According to the HC, playgrounds are a vital part of schools as outdoor activities help to boost children’s physical and mental health.
