In a bid to improve children’s physical and mental health, Australia has planned to set a minimum age limit for the use of social media platforms such as Tik Tok, Facebook and Instagram. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said banning children from using social media will encourage them to engage in outdoor activities. The Australian government is expected to undertake age verification trials before enforcing an age restriction for the use of social media in the country. The minimum age for users to open social media accounts is expected to be between 14 and 16 years.
