Mexico Elects First Female President

Mexico has elected a climate scientist named Claudia Sheinbaum as the country’s first female president.

Mexico has elected a climate scientist named Claudia Sheinbaum as the country’s first female president. Sheinbaum, who belongs to the leftist Morena party, is set to take charge as Mexico’s president from October 1. She will replace outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador who started the Morena party. Sheinbaum served as the mayor of Mexico City from 2018 to 2023. She was the first female to be elected to the post. She also served as the secretary of the environment for the federal district from 2000 to 2006. Apart from becoming Mexico’s first female president, the 62-year-old will also become the country’s first Jewish president.
