Indian classical musician and vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on January 9 at the age of 55 in Kolkata. Khan was the great-grandson of Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan, the founder of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. He is known for his contributions to numerous Bollywood movies including ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Mausam’ and ‘My Name Is Khan’. His music career commenced at the age of 11 when he was trained in Hindustani classical music by his grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. Khan was honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in 2006 and 2022, respectively.
