A woman named Zoya Mirza from Chhattisgarh’s Durg district created history by becoming the first female lieutenant doctor in the Indian Army. Mirza wanted to become a doctor but was unsuccessful at cracking the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) initially. However, with the support of her family members, she managed to clear the test in 2019. Mirza decided to pursue her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, where the cut-off for female candidates is higher than for male candidates. Though Mirza faced numerous challenges including financial issues, she was determined to serve the country. She successfully completed her MBBS in 2023-2024 and began her medical career in April with her first posting in Jammu.
