A half marathon that was organised on Pangong Lake in Ladakh on February 20 has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ‘World’s Highest Frozen Lake Half Marathon’. The four-hour half marathon took place at a height of over 13,000ft and is the first of its kind in India. It was organised by the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, to raise awareness about the melting of Himalayan glaciers due to climate change. Approximately 75 people took part in the 21.9km half-marathon that was held in sub-zero temperatures. It started at Lukung village and ended at Maan village.
