The West Bengal government has launched an open-air classroom programme called Paray Shikshalay for primary and pre-primary students. This initiative was taken to encourage those students who had dropped out of school during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue their education. Through the programme, classes will be conducted in open-air spaces in schools and for those schools that don’t have open-air spaces, classes will be organised in parks and open grounds. Students will be called to these classes in batches. To provide a real classroom experience, makeshift chairs, benches and blackboards will be set up in the assigned parks with facilities for adequate shade. Mid-day meals will also be provided.
