According to a report by the Central Water Commission (CWC), water reserves in India’s southern states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are rapidly depleting. The water levels in 42 reservoirs across southern India are monitored and recorded by the CWC and a sharp decline has been observed over the past few months. In November, the water stocks in the reservoirs declined to 44% of their total storage capacity. Around the same time in 2022, the water stocks were at 87% of their total storage capacity. Experts attribute the declining water levels to rainfall deficits in the region.

ACTIVITY: Mighty Reservoirs

Do some research online and list 5 of India’s major reservoirs or dams along with the rivers across which they are built.
