Indian diplomat Vikram Misri took charge as India’s new foreign secretary on July 15, replacing Vinay Kwatra in the post. Prior to his new appointment, Misri served as the deputy national security advisor. He has extensive diplomatic experience and has served as India’s ambassador to Spain, Myanmar and China during his career. He also worked as private secretary to Indian prime ministers Manmohan Singh, Inder Kumar Gujral and Narendra Modi and is well-known for his knowledge and expertise on China-related affairs. Misri, who was born in Srinagar, is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1989 batch. He is an alumnus of Hindu College, University of Delhi, and Xavier School of Management (XLRI), Jamshedpur.
