Uttarakhand is set to get two new ropeways, which are expected to make travel to remote pilgrimage spots in the region more convenient. A ropeway project from Sonprayag to Kedarnath and another from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji received approval from the Union Cabinet in March.
The projects, costing ₹6,811 crore, are expected to reduce the travel time to Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib Ji significantly. The ropeways will ease pilgrim travel, replacing strenuous journeys on foot, ponies or palanquins.
The Sonprayag to Kedarnath and Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji projects will stretch 12.9kms and 12.4kms in length, respectively.
This initiative will also ease the journey of tourists visiting Uttarakhand’s Valley of Flowers.
