The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has been launched at France’s Eiffel Tower, which will enable Indian tourists to conveniently buy tickets with the help of UPI-enabled applications. The launch of the UPI service took place at an Indian Republic Day celebration held in France and this move makes France the first country in Europe to accept payments via UPI. Lyra, a well-known French e-commerce and proximity payments company, partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to facilitate this payment system. This initiative will enable Indian tourists in France to transact quickly and conveniently. The service will gradually expand to merchants in other European countries.
