  • Chemur, a village in Ladakh that is located at a height of 16,700ft above sea level and is home to less than 100 people, is preparing to become the first Model Border Village in India.
  • Chemur is situated close to the India-China border. It is set to be upgraded with numerous features, including houses with elements that safeguard residents against the harsh climate, improved connectivity and better income generation opportunities.
  • As Chemur and similar villages are situated in remote locations, residents face various limitations, which drive them to migrate or adopt a nomadic lifestyle.
  • This project, undertaken under the ‘Vibrant Village Programme’, seeks to sustain settlements in the region.
