Astronomers have discovered a unique triple star system with enormous stars. Called TIC 470710327, this system consists of three stars, two orbitting each other and a bigger star that orbits this pair. The binary stars that orbit each other at the centre of the system weigh 12 times the mass of the sun and their orbital period is equivalent to approximately one day on Earth. The tertiary star is extremely massive, possessing a mass that is 16 times greater than that of the sun.

Alpha Centauri, located a little over four light years from Earth, is the triple star system closest to Earth.
