Tushar Kumar, a 23-year-old politician, has created history as the youngest person of Indian origin to be appointed as mayor in UK’s history. Kumar, who is originally from Haryana, has been appointed mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood. Prior to his new role, he served as deputy mayor and gained valuable experience working with former mayor Dan Ozarow, whom he succeeded. Kumar, who became a councillor at the age of 20, has engaged in various social and community initiatives. He pursued a degree in political science at King’s College London and also has experience serving as a policy advisor at the Department for Work and Pensions of the UK government. Kumar’s mother, Parveen Rani, has been elected as mayor of Hertsmere Borough Council.
