Underwater noise pollution caused due to activities such as offshore construction and shipping could cause turtles to experience hearing loss. According to scientists, this hearing loss could last from minutes to days. New research indicates that turtles are more sensitive to sound than previously understood. In the experiments that were conducted by scientists, it was learnt that some turtles recovered from their auditory loss within an hour or more whereas in the case of one turtle, it took multiple days. This loss of hearing could prove to be dangerous to turtles as they would not be able to detect communication from other creatures or signs of approaching predators.
