Based on a report released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), 38% of the tree species globally are at risk of extinction in the wild. Scientists involved in this global evaluation of trees concur that pest species damaging trees, clearance of land for agricultural activities, diseases and the felling of trees pose the most danger to trees. Maples, magnolias and oaks are some of the trees that are threatened. According to scientists, several species of birds, insects and animals that depend on these trees for food and shelter will also be impacted.
