  • Remember to carry all the stationery you need.
  • Ensure you write the paper neatly. Use a sharpened pencil, a pen with a good nib or a ball pen with a good flow to write your paper. Keep an eraser with you at all times to correct diagrams and pencil work but try to avoid making mistakes as erasing constantly can make your work look untidy.
  • When you need to correct pen work, draw one line through the wrong answer instead of scratching it out.
  • Make sure that you read the questions correctly and answer them accordingly. Number your answers perfectly and mark your supplements correctly.
  • Underline important points in long answers. Also, underline sub-headings for your answers. If you have an unsteady hand, you could use a ruler to underline the important points.
  • Draw diagrams in a box. Utilise the whole sheet if necessary. It is also important to label all the important features. Do not scatter the labelling all over the diagram. Use the left margin or the right margin only and draw straight arrows from the feature to the label.
  • Maps are very easy to score in. While marking maps, don’t forget to add an index and use appropriate colours.
  • After you complete answering your paper, read through it once to ensure that you have not left out anything and that you have answered the questions correctly. Recheck the question numbers against the answer sheet, ensuring you have numbered your answers correctly. Remember, you get no marks for a correct answer if it hasn’t been numbered correctly.
  • If you do not understand a question, ask the teacher. In a school examination, the teacher might explain the question better.
