Monsoon is one of the 5 chief seasons in the Indian peninsula. After days of endless heat, the rain returns to impart a spirit of joy, relaxation and adventure. Steady downpours on banana leaves concoct a musical sensation delightful to the ear.
The earliest of the rains rush forth, a sweeping torrent, with a relentless fury that beats down upon cement, mud and tree. Children as well as adults are engulfed with the life-giving aura of the rain.
As the monsoon advances, the barren lands once more are clothed with verdant embrace. Moss springs from rocks, grass begins to form, hedges revive amidst the undulating clouds. Life, once more, begins to flow through the veins of Mother Nature.
An occasional snake, awakened from its slumber, crawls out of its burrow. These visitors, though not always lethal, are often perceived to be cold blooded killers, and the mere sight of a snake is enough to frighten some to the bone. For me, these creatures have always been a subject of fascination. Their smooth, glossy scales, inward curving teeth and serpentine build make them one of Nature’s most intriguing beings.
As the rains come to a close, the once misty skies give way to new rays of the sun. The radiant orb’s influence is seen and felt throughout the land. The aftermath of the rains produces a fine soothing aroma.
Overall, monsoon stands as one of the most impactful seasons that occur in the Indian peninsula. The monsoon atmosphere is a delight to even the most fevered brow.
