The Boy Who Spoke for the Birds

Adithya Shyam Dokula, Class 6, The Crossword School, Guntur

Once upon a time there lived a boy named Adi. Every day when Adi woke up, four sparrows would appear near his bedroom window, chirping and flying around. One day only 3 sparrows came and the room was filled with a great silence. Adi inquired about the fourth sparrow. Then a sparrow said in a sad voice, “Yesterday, because of noise pollution, one of our friends was severely injured. We three managed to come out of danger.”
That day onwards, Adi started protesting against noise pollution. The whole school also participated in the protest with him. He also brought the injured sparrow and cured it with the help of a vet. He helped it to fly again. A few days later the other three were injured due to various causes: air pollution, cutting wood, no nests, water pollution etc. Then Adi and his school started protesting against all types of pollution. After a week-long protest, the local government officials were moved. From then onwards pollution reduced. Again, the four sparrows started visiting Adi’s home. They also laid some eggs which did not fail like in the past.
