Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Amravati in Maharashtra and Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh bagged the top ranks in three different categories as cities with the cleanest air in India as per the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2023 survey. For the survey, 131 Indian cities were put into three different categories based on their population—cities with a population of a million-plus, cities with a population between three lakh and one million and cities with apopulation of under three lakh. The Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan is carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in order to track air pollution.
