Sunao Tsuboi, a victim of the world’s first atomic bomb attack, passed away recently. He was 96 years old. Tsuboi was a 20-year-old engineering student when the Hiroshima atomic blast took place. He was less than 2kms away from the blast centre and survived even after sustaining burns all over his body. After the attack, he devoted his time to the cause of nuclear disarmament. Tsuboi spent decades describing his experience of August 6, 1945, when the Enola Gay, an American B-29 Superfortress bomber, dropped a 9,700-pound uranium bomb on Hiroshima. The incident killed more than 10,000 people instantly and led to many deaths in the days, months and years
to come.
