Success Stories: Chasing Dreams

Children raised in poverty encounter numerous issues and are often denied the chance to pursue their ambitions. SUDHIR KUMAR, an alumnus of Salaam Baalak Trust, was determined to lead a fulfilling life. He fled from his poverty-stricken home in pursuit of education and independence. Though he couldn’t fulfil his dream of joining the Indian Army, he persevered through challenges and became a martial arts trainer. SCARLETT RODRIGUES spoke to him to learn more about his journey.

Tell us a little about yourself. During my childhood, I lived in Purnia, Bihar. My father was a construction worker and my family reared cows and buffaloes. My education wasn’t made a priority and I often helped my family with chores. At the time, our village was menaced by many violent groups. I
