Spain’s Flash Floods 

Intense rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of Spain at the end of October caused flash floods, leading to a loss of life and property. Over 200 people were killed and numerous others went missing as a result of overflowing rivers.

  • Intense rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of Spain at the end of October caused flash floods, leading to a loss of life and property. Over 200 people were killed and numerous others went missing as a result of overflowing rivers. 
  • Valencia was among the worst-affected regions in the country.
  • Raging waters swept away vehicles, houses, bridges and people. The unexpected floods also caused power cuts and disrupted communication systems, transportation systems and other essential services.
  • Rescue teams and Spanish army personnel were deployed to rescue and assist flood victims. The Spanish government has provided aid worth $11.5 billion to the flood victims.
  • Scientists attribute the intense rainfall to rising global temperatures.
